Mr. Gordon Beesley, in our 75th Anniversary booklet also gave credit for the formation of the company to Revd. J. J. Leedal who was instrumental in the firm foundation of the company and was at that time the minister at Islington. He maintained strong ties with the 8th throughout his BB career. 1927 was the coming of age for the 8th. Still located in Ryland Street and St Martin Street in Ladywood (currently just off Broad Street at Five Ways) the Captaincy was handed from Mr. Gordon Barnsley to Mr. Sweyn Barnes in 1919. Mr Barnes served as captain until 1938 when he accepted the post of Brigade Training Officer at Brigade Headquarters. The Captaincy was then passed to Mr. Coleman.
