The 8th Birmingham Boys Brigade The 8th was founded in Ladywood, a suburb of Birmingham on September 14th 1906. The founder of the Company was Mr. Gordon Barnsley who along with Mr. J. M. Jones held their first parade with boys from the surrounding estate. The first meetings consisted only of a Sunday school, but this quickly changed as the first officers started a bugle band and endeavoured to teach classes whilst 'brick-bats and other missiles struck the door outside and sometimes came through the windows'. The officers, realising the attention of those outside, sought to reach the boys, and after some work brought the missile throwers off the streets and into the Sunday School.
